Supercritical water oxidation technology uses water as the medium and uses the absence of mass transfer resistance at the gas-liquid interface under supercritical conditions (temperature>374 ℃, P>22.1 MPa) to increase the reaction rate and achieve complete oxidation. Compared with incineration and wet catalytic oxidation, supercritical water oxidation has the advantages of complete oxidation of pollutants, less secondary pollution, and relatively low equipment and operating costs. This technology was proposed by American scholar Modell in the mid-1980s and became a research hotspot of domestic and foreign experts following photocatalysis and wet catalytic oxidation technology.
Water in a supercritical state has the properties of both liquid and gaseous water. Its continuously variable density, low electrostatic dielectric constant, and low viscosity make supercritical water a kind of high diffusivity and high solubility. The ideal reaction medium can use changes in temperature and pressure to control the reaction environment, coordinate the reaction rate and chemical balance, adjust the selective activity of catalysts, etc. It can also achieve the same reaction and separation through the dependence of the solubility of different substances on the supercritical fluid.
