1、 Overview:
Water is an extremely precious resource that cannot be consumed endlessly. However, to this day, textile dyeing still uses water as the medium. Dyeing and finishing is a water consuming industry in the entire textile industry and a major source of environmental pollution. Therefore, people have begun to develop new anhydrous technologies, while supercritical fluid dyeing completely eliminates water, causes no pollution, and does not require additives during the entire dyeing process. Residual dyes can also be recycled. The high diffusion coefficient and low viscosity of supercritical fluid make it have good transmission performance. Supercritical fluid has a very low surface tension and is easy to penetrate into the internal structure of fibers. These characteristics of supercritical fluid determine its superiority as a medium for dyeing processes. Among many substances, CO2 is a non-polar molecule that is suitable for dyeing hydrophobic synthetic fibers. Among them, polyester is an important synthetic fiber with strong hydrophobicity, few dye uptake groups, poor hygroscopicity, and small swelling in water. Only dyes with smaller molecular weights are easy to dye, making it difficult to dye with hydrophilic dyes and difficult to dye deeply to achieve a firm color, Supercritical CO2 dyeing can better penetrate dyes into fiber polyester, exacerbate the swelling of polyester, promote the diffusion and transfer of dye molecules, and accelerate the combination of dye molecules with polyester. Supercritical dyeing technology has good dyeing effect on synthetic fibers. Supercritical dyeing of polar natural fiber is still in the stage of exploration and research in China. The research on natural fiber dyeing with supercritical dyeing equipment has made some progress.
Taking into account environmental and technological factors mentioned above, supercritical CO2 has become a good choice for the textile industry. The low viscosity and high solubility of supercritical fluids make them highly valuable for applications, allowing them to enter very small pores without the need for convective propulsion between pores.
